DEPO -PROVERA
WHAT IS DEPO-PROVERA?
“An injection that is given every 11 to 13 weeks that contains the synthetic hormone protein.”*
HOW DOES DEPO-PROVERA WORK?
Depo-Provera prevents pregnancy primarily by not allowing an egg to be released. It also increases the difficulty of the sperm reaching the egg if the eft is released. Finally, it reduces the lining of the uterus so that a newly fertilized ed\gg will not find a safe place to attach and will die.”*
It does not provide any protection against sexually transmitted diseases including AIDS.*2
CAN DEPO-PROVERA CASUE AN ABORTION?
“For both implementation and the continuation of a pregnancy, the thickness of the uterine wall is very important. If the wall is too thin, the baby will not implant or will not tay attached. This will cause an abortion and the baby will die. Depo-Provera causes thinning of the uterine lining to which a fertilized egg would normally attach.”* This is called a “chemical abortion.” *2
